What is Hurricane House?

Hurricane House is the hurricane-resistant home of Josh Morgerman, hurricane chaser, in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi. The home is elevated to resist storm surge, built with hardened materials, and equipped with a research-grade weather station by Campbell Scientific to reliably capture ground-truth measurements from future storms in the area.

The location of Hurricane House is intentional. Quaint, coastal Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi sits squarely in the United States portion of “Hurricane Alley,” a region known for its disproportionately high number of hurricanes. The city was the epicenter of the 1969 Category 5 Hurricane Camille, and the area was shaken again in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit the area. Josh is well positioned to measure the next big hurricane that comes his way.
